Wow we sure learned about a bunch of cool new online tools and software during the session of the online conference. The details are explain in Moodle-Week 12, but in a nutshell, pick one, create a project (topic-technology or science), post it here and reflect on your experience. Don't forget to give the name of the tool and the link to the actual website where you can locate the tool. Somebody else may what to try it!!!
I used Google Notebook and started taking notes for my science methods course. This tool is easily accessible, easy to use, and anyone can find a way to use it. High school students, college students, and even teachers can take notes using this tool and organize them. I could use this now and in my classroom someday. I can see myself making schedules for my classroom, using it for the notes, and/or having my students take notes using it. I think this tool is very useful.
I heart Wikis. Wikis are collaborative Web sites that allow you to change the content of pages easily.. One of the great benefites of Wikis is that they can help your classroom share information. There are many different Wiki sites out there and some great software that you can use if you heart Wikis like i do.
I really wanted to make a cartoon. I am very much into art and learn well with visuals. For some reason the website would not work, so I went up to the school to make one. I loved it! It was so much fun. Students would love this as well I think. They could really use their imagination. I only wish there were more characters and backgrounds. They need the same character making many poses and facial expressions. With cartoons, I always think of Social Studies. You always see a cartoon displaying what is going in politics and many other subjects that would go with Social Studies. This would be a great tool to use in my future classroom. I made a cartoon about technology. My cartoon displays the truth and technology and kids. It seems that kids know so much more than we do. One of the tools that I learned more about during the K-12 Conference was Audacity. Anne Davis in her “Putting the Pedagogy into the Tools” discussed this tool in the presentation on October 16. In this presentation, you went to her Wiki and went through the different tools on your own. Throughout this semester, I have not been able to get my computer to record sound. With the tutorials and information provided through this presentation, I finally fixed the problem. The program is usable in the schools to record students’ voice into presentations and blogs. I think this is a great tool to use. As I was playing around with it, I recorded several different things and then played them all together and had a unique track. I think students would enjoy playing with this program as much as learning with it. You can check out audacity at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ or you can check out Anne Davis’s wiki about audacity at http://pedagogytools.pbwiki.com/Audacity.
I really like the idea of having students creat cartoon comics. Students can be creative and use their imaginations to a subject tha tis being taught. For instance, I taught a lesson last year in one of my college classes for second grade about magnetism. I gave them the background on how magnet got its name ( a man called magneto - I think). i think that would be one great lesson that students would have fun portraying. He found a rock that was attracted to a nail that was lodged in his shoe walking after his sheep. The possibilities are endless. One of the tools that I have learned about and find very useful is the classroom architect tool. This tool allows you to enter in dimensions of a classroom and arrange your room according to things that you have. For me, this is very useful because I am visual; I have to see before I do! I think that even the students could do this. It is a good way to introduce organization to a student. Who knows, maybe the students would have better idea on how to arrange the room.
