TECS 390 Students:
You need to join and spend some time explore the ORIGINAL Classroom 20 site started by Steve Hargadon. You will find a wealth of resources and sections/discussions and groups on most of the topics we are discussing and learning about in our class. I think you will find it a valuable resource for now and in your future. You must learn to take advantage of FREE resources and chances to learn. http://classroom20.ning.com/
Classroom 2.0 has changed my teaching life and I thought I was pretty "in the know" before I went there. I now know that I can receive (and also offer) assistance, feedback, and ideas at any time of day there.
It's grown very large since it's inception this spring (I joined when there were only 300-ish members, and now there are nearly 2600) but it's still navigable and friendly. Countless 2.0s have been created in the spirit of the network including one I started, Gifted Education 2.0.
I think the success of CR2.0 has been that the first members were very tech-savvy and they set a good stage for the more tentative among us to be able to find value there. I know it's changing classrooms across the globe! Go in, look around, but you'll only get out of it if you're active and participate.
I think there were under a 100 when I first joined last spring and I agree, I thought I was savvy, but have learned so much from so many sharing open teachers. It has transformed a portion of this class and has made it a rich experience rather than feed and weed. My students learn from the Teachers from the Trenches, and each other and I know I learn as much as they do. Sometimes I spend hours exploring the resources and things shared. It just boggles my mind what is going on in classrooms around the country. The validation for my class of future teachers is invaluable. I think they actually believe that the "stuff" in the is course is begin used by real teachers because of Classro0m 2.0. Bless Steve for creating it!!!
I have to piggy-back onto this. As a Cyndi Danner-Kuhn student and fan, no doubt about it Classroom 2.0 has made a big difference. I remember this time last year as I took TECS 290, the intro to educational technology class, I thought I was learning by leaps and bounds and was amazed at how much there was out there I had no clue about. Now, as part of TECS 390, and with Classroom 2.0 added, I feel like I'm in the middle of an exponential thing. There just is so much more to learn and this is an awesome addition to help us as students just begin to get a feel for all the resources out there to help us. Plus, I have found interesting friends in Classroom 2.0 - a former and a current teacher from one of the schools where my sons go and where I have substituted. Now they and I have all new things to chat about . . . and actually DO talk about the stuff, because we can do it here, when we never took the time before. I'm excited to be able to connect with the Teachers from the Trenches and gather up their ideas. The really cool part will be someday when I can add something that might actually help someone else!
Thanks, for the confirmation that I am doing something right in this class and past classes. I too am always learning new things and finding new stuff through Classroom 2.0. The Teachers from the Trenchers are nothing short of Inspirational.
It is just fun and a bit addicting. I almost hate to admit how many "classroom 2.0 networks" I am participating in discussions. I totally understand the kids addiction with MySpace and Facebook. From "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton" Yikes-a-be!!!!
