My students are learning about and beginning to set up their own Social Bookmarking site like del.icio.us or Portaportal, etc. If you have an opinion about social bookmarking or one to share, we would really appreciate taking advantage of your resources.

Cyndi's Social Bookmarking sites:
I have two, a del.icio.us site, that I basically use for on the quick on the fly bookmarking and then I move sites to my Portaportal so I can organize them better. I like both, but feel I can organize better in my Portaportal, and del.icio.us serves as a fast down & dirty way to grab the sites for future reference. I am a little addicted to Social Bookmarking. I also like the feature in del.icio.us where I can get to other folks sites. it is called Your networks and that is a wealth of information when I am doing research and looking for things.

My social bookmarking site is http://del.icio.us/mamccacken. I chose this because it manages my files for me and that is something I really need. I need all the organization I can use. Plus, I don't really listen to music on the internet or anything else so del.icio.us will work just fine for me. I believe this bookmarking will help me get to the sites that I need to without it taking a long time to find the exact site I was at if I had found something intersting.

I decided to go with portaportal. I looked at all of the sites that were given and I felt that portaportal was very easy to read. It seemed organized and my eyes were not jumping all over the page. On the other sites there just seemed so much to look at, and I guess that makes it hard for me to concentrate. Portaportal had a nice page and made it very easy to read and understand. My social bookmarking site is . I chose this because it was the easiest for me to follow and set up. I would use this in the future for a fast way to get to the sites that I want to visit. There isn’t much on there right now, but hopefully I can get a better grasp of it as we go along in the semester!

My social bookmarking is http://guest.portaportal.com/mdedgington. I will soon be uploading my favorites list into the correct categories for your easy viewing. I chose portaportal because it looked more organized to me. I started to set up a Del.icio.us account but when I went in I became confused quickly so I changed my mind. When setting up my portaportal account it was very clear on how to use. Social bookmarking will help me organize my favorites list that is really long and has gotten very cluttered with a variety of subgroups. My portaportal account will help when I am teaching by allowing me to easily find a website under a certain topic instead of flipping through all of my favorite tabs.

It seems to organize me alot better and i certainly need that! When iwent to the site i thought it was very easy to get around and find things. I want to use it in the future to get other teachers opinion and collaborate with them on ideas.

I decided to use Blinklist as my social bookmarking site. I really like the blink button that is located in the tool bar. I also like the fact that I can highlight text to describe the website. I just thought since it was ranked pretty high, it would be a good place to start. As a teacher, I would use it in the classroom when I want my students to compare and contrast or for research purposes. I like the fact that you can access your list from any computer. This is why it would be good to use in the classrooms. You could also teach your students to use social bookmarking if they are doing internet research.
